If an individual is into other sports such as golf would taking martial arts be a good option?

I was wondering if martial arts is a good option for people to take up in their spare time. I don't know how much it costs to participate in a course of martial arts but I do know from personal experience that taking classes is enjoyable and rewarding becuase I enrolled in a self-defense Tae Kwon Do class for personal reasons, not because I was threatened at school. Martial arts is a good source of discipline and training for your body allowing you to go places in life, but is martial arts more of a sport or more of a hobby to take up. Is martial arts still good to know for people that don't engage in physical contact with violence or threats outside of their homes?

I would say you are better off engaging in physical violence outside your home than inside it. ;)

As for your question "Martial Arts" is a very vague term that entails about 30 different sports. There are facilities that provide whatever level of intensity and training you desire. If you want to fight for sport go to a school that caters to that crowd if you are just looking to master an art form and get a good workout find a school that caters to that crowd.

It seems taht there is some kind of Martial Arts school on every corner these days. You just need to research what you want to get out of your training and find a school that fits your lifestyle and needs.

I agree with SiFu Frank and will add that there is an additional reason that martial Arts Training has benefits relating to other sports…Focus. While Training in the Martial Arts you are constantly using and developing focus skills that are beneficial to all aspects of life. Training in the Martial Arts also has the benefit of you carrying yourself in completely different manner. As you train, confidence and self awareness become second nature…

Yes martial arts is a sport. Like golf it can be a lifelong hobby. Most martial arts you can do all your life. According to some research done at request of the national health organization you are less likely to get a sport related injury with martial arts as a hobby sport. Any spot is about training and discipline . Martial arts has that and more it can be used as self defense. Most martial artist I know have never used it for self defense because the occasion never presented. The few I know who have are very glad the were trained and in good shape.itself.
In regard to cost our school is slightly more than a health club membership. After you earn a black belt and if you have the desire and demeanor to help out you can offset cost by helping as an assistant instructor.
