what can you do in Vacouver/Whistler besides golfing and snow related activies?

We're going in June..My husband, our daughter and me…We're staying in Vancouver. Whistler looks like a beautiful place but being from the deep south, we do not ski or snowboard and neither of us play golf. We enjoy sightseeing, dining out and going for long walks…Any suggestions for both Vancouver and Whistler will be appreciated. Can you make it to Whistler and back to Vancouver in 1 day trip? Are there any dinner trains? We love doing that sort of thing. Can you ride a ski lift up the mountain just to check out the view? Please don't laugh at my questions…
